Purchase Agreement

At Montana Skies Labradors, we do our very best to choose and breed healthy and temperamentally sound dogs. Beginning with the parental bloodlines and then continuing with excellent feeding, care and handling of the puppies. Our puppies will have foundational social skills appropriate to their age. They have no unusual shyness or temperament issues. It is your responsibility to continue to raise your new puppy with patience and knowledge. The next two years are so very crucial to who your dog becomes. We highly recommend BAXTER & Bella for step by step training of your new puppy. Our puppies are started with these methods and will be prepared to continue with you in in your home. We believe you will be impressed with the ease of using this program. Even though the Labrador Retriever is a fantastic breed and so highly intelligent, at the end of the day, your puppy is still a dog. And, I think we can agree that all dogs need proper training and care.

Although we try very hard to place all of our puppies in the very best lifetime homes, we understand that life is unpredictable. If at any time in this puppy's lifetime it needs to be rehomed, for any reason, we will take him/her back and/or relocate him/her. If you want to keep your pet but need assistance to do so, we will do our very best to help you find whatever help you need. We are deeply committed to supporting our puppies and their families for life. Under no circumstances do we want to see a Montana Skies Labrador placed in a pet shop, animal shelter or similar establishment!

All of our breeding dogs have been OFA tested by a veterinarian and have scores of excellent hips and normal elbows. They also have genetic health screening with clear results. We are very serious about breeding the healthiest dogs we can. For our peace of mind and in the interest of providing our families with healthy puppies, we screen all our puppies through Embark before they are 8 weeks old. We want our puppy families to know that their new pet is as healthy as we can ensure.

Montana Skies Labradors attests that this puppy is healthy at the time of sale. You are encouraged to have your puppy checked by your veterinarian within 72 hours of purchase. If the puppy is deemed unhealthy, and the proof is provided by your veterinarian, the puppy may be returned to us for a full refund.

Unless there is a written and signed agreement, the puppy is a pet and shall not be used for breeding purposes. Our contract is null and void if this is breached. If you would like to become a breeder, we are glad to help as we have been helped to learn to be a responsible and ethical breeder.

Our guarantee is null and void if this puppy is fed substandard dog food. We need good healthy food to thrive long term and our animal friends are no different. We encourage you to check out the facts on dog foods and educate yourself. Mama and the puppies have been raised on raw and home cooked food and herbal and whole food supplements. Our goal in natural rearing is long-term health and vitality through preventive measures. We are happy to answer any questions you may have about raw/homemade dog food and natural rearing.

Here are a couple of places to start:

How Much Is That Puppy?

At Montana Skies Labradors all puppies are sold with AKC Limited Registration for $1200 with a $300 non-refundable deposit to hold your place on the waitlist until puppies are 8 weeks of age. We may be able to hold puppies up to 12 weeks of age depending on individual circumstances. If we agree to hold your puppy past 8 weeks of age, your puppy must be paid for in-full at 8 weeks and a boarding fee of $25/week will be due and payable before you take your puppy home.

If you are interested in Full Registration for your puppy you will be required to provide proof of excellent hips and normal elbows through OFA or Penhip and $500 before registration will be changed. If you are interested in showing your puppy, please contact us and we can discuss that option.

Pick of Litter can be purchased for $1500 with Limited Registration and Full Registration option as stated above.

Although we encourage prospective puppy families to follow along as our puppies grow, we want to make it clear that no puppy will be chosen until after seven weeks, when personality testing will be completed. It is very important to have a good idea of each puppies inherited behavioral tendencies and how that puppy will be as an adult before you try to pick your perfect puppy. In the meantime, by all means get your deposit in to secure your place on the waitlist and then have lots of fun looking at pictures of gorgeous Montana Skies Labrador puppies!

All Montana Skies Labradors puppies will come with AKC registration application and genetic test results from Embark.

We will also send puppies home with a collar and leash, bag of treats, dog food, blanket that smells like mama and litter mates, Calmaroo Puppy, and a few other items.

Choosing Your Perfect Puppy

When choosing the perfect puppy, the first thing to do is decide what you want your puppy to do. Maybe you want a dog for companionship; as a playmate for your children; for protection; for a particular activity, such as hunting, breeding, conformation, or competing in performance events. Although some dogs will excel in all these areas, most dogs will have more limited talents. Starting by answering some specific questions about your reasons for getting a dog, experience with dogs, lifestyle, and current circumstances can help you narrow down what you are looking for in a new dog. Click the link below to see our Waitlist Questionnaire for some ideas of questions you might ask yourself. By answering the questionnaire, you can also help us help you choose the best puppy for your family.

The next step is to find a responsible breeder who can help guide you in your decision making process. A good breeder will know his/her puppies and will have tested them to get a good feel for each individual's personality traits and what type of owner they might work best for. At Montana Skies Labradors, we don't choose your puppy for you, but we strive to give you as much information as possible in order to make your choice easier. We want what is best for our puppies and their new families; a lifetime of fun and enjoyment together.

Once you have chosen a breeder and you have answered your questions, then it is time to meet the puppies! Of course, this is the funnest part, but don't let all those cute little faces persuade you. Remember you will have this dog for 12-15 years. Choose a puppy now that has the traits and abilities you are looking for, train it up right, and you will have years of enjoyment together.

COI Information: Our puppy's genetically calculated COI percentages range from 9-16. Average genetic COI for Labrador Retrievers is 16%. 8 generation pedigree calculated COI is 0.39%. Average pedigree COI for Labradors is 6.5%. However, I believe pedigree COI average is calculated from 10 generations. Either way you look at it, these puppies have a low to average COI. If you would like more information on COI and what it means for puppy buyers and breeders, please feel free to contact me. I would be happy to share what I have learned about COI and its importance.
